BlogHarbor and Blogware just had a major update for its users and now the backend has several improvements. Not only is it much cleaner and more user friendly, but there are several additional features including:
- A Post Web Page function, allowing custom static HTML web pages to be inserted in the standard templates and match the look and feel of your weblog.
- A function to automatically rename photographs when a duplicate name is used, making it easier to upload images from phone-cams and digital cameras that recycle image file names.
- A function to support secure file attachments to article entries.
- A tool to record history of IP numbers for recent accesses to the Publisher Control Panel.
- Support for article keywords and searching of those keywords.
- A streamlined user interface designed to make the transition between the Publisher Control Panel and the Reader Control panel interfaces smoother.
- Support to allow complete customization of Review templates.
- ENT (Easy News Topics) support for RSS 2.0. Easy News Topics make it easier for RSS aggregators to categorize the content of your RSS feed. For details regarding the ENT specification, see this page.
- Support to enhance compatibility when switching between the Rich Text Editor and the Standard Text Editor.
- Support for RSD, Really Simple Discoverability 1.0. RSD is a mechanism that helps blogging client software find the services needed to read, edit, or post to your blog.
- Support to make inserting images in an Article entry within the Rich Text Editor easier and more flexible.
These changes are great and even though Blogharbor/Blogware are new to the scene, they are turning into great blog service providers for first time bloggers to the advanced blogging pros.
BlogHarbor does cost money, while several free blogging options are out there like Blogger.com, but I like the easy to use backend and the added features that BlogHarbor blogs provide. I think is is worth the small investment if someone is looking for a blog provider.
Here are a few of the BlogHarbor features I like.
The Built-In Search Engine makes it very easy for visitors to search your site and find relevant articles an posts.
It is easy to set-up RSS Syndication so that you can feature recent articles from other blogs right on your blog! Every time they add a new article, it will be updated automatically on your blog as well!
BlogHarbor has several Ready-Made Templates so that you can have a stylish looking site without having to be an experienced web designer.
BlogHarbor has a great way to track Web Stats so that you can learn who is visiting your site and how they got there. I also recommend using SiteMeter to track statistics, and that is free, so it never hurts to have a couple trackers running at the same time.
It is very easy to Upload Images to the Photo Album and I love this because this can be difficult with other blogs. You will love this feature.
At first I thought it was going to be difficult to get creative with my side navigation bars, but BlogHarbor has the option to Create a Custom Component, and it was much easier than I thought.
I have a Custom Poll running on the top right of this site, and that was very easy to set up at BlogPolling.com.
And if you are currently using Blogger.com to host your blog, you can easily transfer over all your content to BlogHarbor by clicking this link here.
