Quixtar supports U.S. Dream Academy

$100,000 donated to program for at-risk children.

Quixtar Inc. recently announced its sponsorship of the U.S. Dream Academy with a $100,000 donation aiding the organization's programs for at-risk children.

Established by renowned gospel singer Rev. Wintley Phipps in 1998, the U.S. Dream Academy empowers at-risk youth by providing them with academic, social, and values enrichment through supportive mentoring programs.

"We're proud to support the U.S. Dream Academy through our corporate giving program, the One by One Campaign for Children," said Jim Payne, Quixtar's Managing Director. "One by One strives to make the greatest possible positive impact on the lives of children. With our sponsorship of the U.S. Dream Academy we know that we're not only helping provide our most vulnerable kids with valuable academic and social skills, we're providing them with hope for a better future."

The U.S. Dream Academy places a special emphasis on children with an incarcerated parent, as studies show that these children are six times more likely to end up in prison one day.  The U.S. Dream Academy also provides programs for children falling behind in school as these youth also are at higher risk for future incarceration.

Recognizing that the "digital divide" in many of the nation's disadvantaged communities further separates those that have from those that don't, the development of computer skills and access to the Internet are central elements of U.S. Dream Academy programs.

The U.S. Dream Academy has 11 centers around the country that provide after-school programs using technology and one-to-one mentoring as key components of their intervention program
