Harteis News & Views : A Boeing Strike May Be Coming to a Close

Workers and management at Boeing's commercial airplane division hammered out a tentative agreement that could allow the airline giant to resume production quickly.

Thousands of machinists will vote on whether to approve the new three-year deal, providing a potential end to a three-week strike. Approval would let Boeing immediately make airplanes again.

The union's leadership urged its 18,400 members to accept the agreement, saying it will address key issues including health care premiums and pension payouts.

Harteis News & Views : Cell phone spam is finally being controlled.

An Arizona appellate court ruled Tuesday that a 1991 federal law's ban against using autodialers to call cell phones applies to sending e-mail text messages with unsolicited advertisements -- a technology not in vogue when the law was enacted.

The unanimous ruling by a three-judge Court of Appeals panel upholds a trial judge's pretrial ruling in favor of a man who had sued a mortgage company in 2001 after it sent two unsolicited text messages to his cell phone. Rodney L. Joffe claimed that the calls by ...   more »
